= Recipe
1. Optional: In a large heavy pot, cook bacon (optional) until browned. Remove and set aside.
2. Season 400 g diced beef with salt and pepper. Brown in batches in the pot over high heat with 3 tbsp vegetable oil. Remove and set aside.
3. Add 2 onions (roughly chopped) to the pot and cook over medium heat until softened. Return the beef (and bacon if using) to the pot. Add 3 carrots (roughly chopped), 1 kg potatoes (peeled and cut into large chunks), 4 beef stock cubes dissolved in 800 ml water, 5-6 sprigs fresh thyme, and 4 drops Worcestershire sauce.
4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer 1.5-2 hours until beef is tender and vegetables are cooked through. Adjust seasoning before serving.
