1. Heat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, beat 8 tbsp unsalted butter (113g, room temperature), 0.5 cup packed dark brown sugar (110g), and 0.5 cup granulated sugar (100g) until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute. Add 1 large egg and 1 tbsp vanilla extract and beat to combine.
2. Add 1.5 cups all-purpose flour (192g), 0.75 tsp baking soda, and 0.75 tsp kosher salt and mix until just combined. Mix in 1 cup chopped semi-sweet chocolate (140g).
3. Spread batter evenly in a 12-inch oven-safe skillet. Bake until golden brown and set but still slightly gooey in the center, 20-22 minutes. Let stand at least 5 minutes before serving warm.
